Gourd Jack O' Lantern Lamps

Description: Celebrate the fall season by creating your own one-of-a-kind jack-o’-lantern from a naturally grown hard-shell gourd (Lagenaria siceraria). In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn the basics of designing and carving gourds using micro carving tools before adding rich dyes to enhance the natural beauty of the gourd and create a unique Halloween decoration. Along the way, you’ll learn about the fascinating history of gourds, how they’re grown and cured, and what makes them such a unique artistic medium. A variety of finished examples will be on display to inspire your own creativity, and each participant will leave with a handcrafted gourd jack-o’-lantern to enjoy throughout the Halloween season.

Lamp bases for your gourd jack-o'-lantern masterpieces are available for an additional $15 fee.

Directions to the Sugarhouse: Follow GPS directions to the Market at 15 Farm View Drive, New Gloucester, Maine. Continue past the Market on Farm View Drive and take your first left onto Valley Farm Rd. Follow Valley Farm Rd. until you see the Smokehouse Visitors Center (white silo) on the right-hand side. Take the right-hand turn immediately after the Smokehouse down to the Family Farmyard. Park in the dirt parking lot and the Sugarhouse is in the middle of the Farmyard space.
